Bringing the Beat Back to Bradford

 -

Do you remember dancing at The New Victoria, seeing an iconic band at the Gaumont, or watching a classic film at the Odeon?

Bradford Live are delighted to launch a newly commissioned project, Bringing the Beat Back to Bradford led by Impressions Gallery, and supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Ahead of the building’s re-opening in autumn 2022, Impressions Gallery is embarking on a major new project to uncover the many memories that were made within its walls. They are inviting members of the public to submit memories of the building through images, memorabilia and oral histories. This mass participation project will result in a crowd-sourced exhibition, Bringing the Beat Back to Bradford, opening at the gallery in July 2022.

Over the next twelve months we will be sharing highlights via our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). Launching on 5 November, #FlashbackFriday features unique artefacts & images from our own archive, as well as photographs from the public call out.

You can follow this campaign and get involved by following us on social media and using the hashtag #BringingTheBeatBackToBradford

Impressions Gallery is a charity that helps people understand the world through photography. The Gallery collaborates with photographers and organisations nationally and internationally to commission, exhibit and publish photography. Established in 1972 as one of the first specialist photographic galleries in Europe, Impressions has grown to become one of the UK’s leading independent venues for photography.

There are two ways you can get involved in Bringing the Beat Back to Bradford:

  1. By submitting your memories - Bringing the Beat Back to Bradford is an exhibition made by you.Do you remember dancing at The New Victoria, seeing an iconic band at the Gaumont, or watching a classic film at the Odeon? We want to hear from you!
  2. As a project participant - we need a team of dedicated participants to help us deliver this project, by recording oral histories, delivering ‘scan-athon’ workshops and researching in local archives.
